Rachel E. Schattman, Ph.D.
I am an Assistant Professor of Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Maine School of Food and Agriculture, a Fellow with the George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions, and also an Associate of the University of Maine Climate Change Institute.
The goal of my work is to support farmers to be more resilient in a changing climate while protecting natural resources. My academic background is in agroecology, with a focus on sustainable management in vegetable production systems, sociology, community food security, and farm-based adaptive practices to climate change.
I have expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research design and analysis, and a background in applied Participatory Action Research (PAR). My experience owning and managing a diversified vegetable farm informs my perspective and research focus.
